Arbutus's Story

Arbutus Akers Kazee, 84, of Flatwoods, passed away Dec. 16, 2017, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
Mrs. Kazee was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Decatur, Ohio, to the late Andrew and Wyona Hopkins Akers.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kazee was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer Kazee Jr.; two sons, Richard David Kazee and Timothy Ray Kazee; and 11 siblings.
Mrs. Kazee was a seamstress for Delmars and Corman's. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and working in her church, First Pentecostal Church in Flatwoods, where she was a member. Her life revolved around caring for and spending time with her family and her precious dog, Abby.
Mrs. Kazee is survived by two children, a son, Robert Andrew (Peg) Kazee of Russell; one daughter, Deanna (Steve) Smith of Greenup; six grandchildren, Chasidy Watkins, Mark Kazee, Gabe Kazee, Joshua Francis, Andrea Carver and Aaron Francis; nine great-grandchildren, Emily, Eli, Ben, Casey, Morgan, Kaleb, Steven, Trent II and Madison; two sisters, Betty Cox and Carolyn Akers, both of Ironton, Ohio; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at First Pentecostal Church in Flatwoods with Pastor Shane Cox, Rev. Brian Daniels and Rev. Chris Hammond officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, in Kirby Flatts Cemetery in Boyd County.
Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods is in charge of arrangements.
