August Gullett

August "Cap" Gullett, 87, died peacefully with his loving family at his side on April 2, 2019 at Rush, Kentucky.
Cap was born August 27, 1931 in Coalton, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Dallas and Hazel (Kiger) Gullett.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Freeman and Dallas, Jr.; and three sisters Jewell Elliott, Sena Hutchinson and Myrtle Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty Schmidt Gullett of Rush; son Kevin (Betty Carver) Gullett of Leavenworth, Kansas; granddaughter Melissa (Robert) Hingula of Kansas City, Missouri; a great granddaughter Darcie Hingula of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother Carson "Bill" Gullett of Rush; and his loving rescue dog, Sara.

Later he worked in asphalt construction where he operated various pieces of equipment including rollers and graders in Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and Florida. Later he formed his own company, Gullett Paving, and ran the business successfully until retirement in 1994.
His favorite job, however, was serving as a greeter at the Cannonsburg WalMart for over 19 years. He enjoyed greeting customers and sharing in their many life events. He felt blessed to be working with all his fellow employees which he considered part of his family.

Deepest sympathy to Cap's family. Cap was my Foreman with Blacktop Industries in Kenova, WV during 1970-1971. I entered the US Army in 1971, and Cap's sound advice from his experience during the Korean War served me well through a 20-year Army career. Cap was a good man, whom I know touched countless lives with his positive example and wise counsel. So thankful I was able to visit him a few years back. Rest in peace old friend.

I am so sorry to hear of Cap's passing. He was one of the sweetest men I am proud to have known. He would always tell my daughter Hayleigh some kind of story to make her laugh and would often buy her suckers when we would come shopping. Cap you will be missed by so many! It was an honor to work with you and thank you for your service.
