Ballard Curtis Johnson, 89, a lifelong resident of Catlettsburg, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Jan, 23, 2018, at his home with his loving family at his side.
Mr. Johnson was born June 23, 1928, in Catlettsburg, to the late Walter Sr. and Carrie Clevenger Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his adoring wife of 61 years, Dorothy Stapleton Johnson in 2011; a daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson; five brothers, Chester Johnson, Walter Johnson Jr., Frank Johnson, Delbert Johnson and Orvel Johnson; and a sister, Helen Draxie Rice.
Ballard attended Litman School, served his country honorably in the US Army and retired in 1990 from Armco after 38 years of faithful service, where he was #1 Roller - Hot Strip Mill. He loved fox hunting and spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted member of First Macedonia Church, where he was a Church Deacon since 1984, past Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and Church Clerk.
Ballard is survived by his children, two daughters, Brenda K. Peterman and husband James of Catlettsburg and Carolyn S. Vanderpool and husband Wayne of Rush; four sons, Ballard C. Johnson Jr., and wife Jane of Catlettsburg, Harold G. Johnson of Greenup, Gary Johnson and wife Lisa of Rush and Larry Johnson and wife Donnetta of East Lynn, W.Va; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and his best friend and fox hunting buddy, Curtis L. McClelland.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at First Macedonia Church, 2008 Center Street in Catlettsburg with Rev. Fred Chaffin, Rev. Robert Williams and Rev. Brad Pruitt officiating. Final resting place will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93 and U.S. Army. His great-grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, 2702 Panola Street in Catlettsburg.
