Ballard's Story

Ballard Gene Meade, 90, of Ashland, KY, passed away August 1st at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Mr. Meade was born November 15, 1926, the son of the late Edgar Samuel and Virginia Mae Ricketts Meade. After proudly serving his country in the Army Air Force he attended Marshall University in Huntington WV. Ballard was an avid Kentucky Basketball fan, never missing a chance to watch his beloved Wildcats. He was a retired chemist from Semet Solvay in Ashland after many years of service. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a grand daughter, Tracy Cumpton Lovins and a sister, Mary Wilson. Surviving include his long time companion, Linda Caines. Four children; Vicki Jo Cumpton, and husband Gene, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Ron Meade, and wife Kathy of Greensboro, North Carolina, and twins, Michael Meade, and wife Adrianne, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Melinda Meade Risk, and husband Tom, of Tallahassee, Florida. Ballard is also survived by two brothers; Glenn Meade of Dayton, Ohio, and Mick Meade, and wife Donna, of Indiana, and a sister, Peggy White, and husband Richard, of Ashland, Kentucky. Four grandchildren; Rocky Cumpton, Mitchell Meade, Jeremy Meade, Tony Meade, and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 5th, at 1:00 PM at Preston Family Funeral Home. Visitation from noon until service time. Inurnment will be Monday, August 7th at 10:00 AM at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, Argillite, KY, with military honors.
