Bessie Carolyn Waugh Porter, 71, of Flatwoods, passed away peacefully Monday, June 19, 2017.
Bessie was born June 10, 1946, in Rush, a daughter of the late John and Lilly Henson Waugh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Waugh; and two sisters, Beulah Waugh and Bertha Stephenson.
Bessie was a longtime Boyd County resident and a graduate of Boyd County High School. She was an avid UK fan, especially basketball. She made her career in Nursing and worked at King's Daughters Medical Center and as a home health aide with Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She also worked as a nursing assistant at Wurtland Nursing and Rehab. Bessie was a member of the Straight Creek Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her sons, Shawn Porter and wife Angie of Hubert, N.C., and Jason Scott Porter of Huntington, W.Va.; a brother, Jack (Connie) Waugh of Richmond; two sisters, Doris Wellman of La Grange and Georgene (Paul) Wormsley of Lorraine, Ohio; four grandchildren, whom she adored, Devan Porter, Priden Porter, Mason Porter and Ashland Porter; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel by Pastor Randy Biggs. Burial will be in Coalton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
