Carl Meade Sr., 78, of Ashland, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side March 30, 2017.
Mr. Meade a life long resident of Ashland, was born to the late William Boyd and Marie (Fryer) Meade. In addition to his parents, Mr. Meade was preceded in death by a brother, William "Billy" Meade.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He retired from AK Steel Inc. after 37 years of service. Active in his community, Mr. Meade was a 50 year member of Rush Masonic Lodge 715 F&AM, Order of the Eastern Star and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite member. He enjoyed the fellowship and participating in the charitable works of El Hasa Shrine, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Georgia; his children, Carl Meade Jr. of Ashland, David (Sharla) Meade of Catlettsburg, Michael (Jamie) Meade of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Cara Meade (James Geisler) of Lexington; five brothers and sisters; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, with Scottish Rite services at 7:30 p.m. by officers and members of Ashland-Russell Scottish Rite Club and Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. by officers and members of Rush Masonic Lodge 715 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
