Charles E. Arthur Sr., 82, of Cannonsburg, died peacefully Monday, June 5, 2017, at his home, following an extended illness.
Charles was born June 30, 1934, in Ashland, a son of the late Simeon and Ruth Riffe Arthur.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Lewis Arthur; five brothers, Larry, Arville, Roy Eugene, Homer and Robert Arthur; and four sisters, Joyce Daniels, Neoma Hall, Laverne Adkins and Muriel Meade.
He was retired from City of Ashland Road Department after 20 years of service. He was of the Christian Faith and a U.S. Army Veteran. He loved people and they love him, regardless of who they were. He enjoyed fishing, University of Kentucky Basketball and Cincinnati Reds.
He is survived by two brothers, Earl (Davina) Arthur of Flatwoods and Vernon (Rita) Johnson of Catlettsburg; a sister, Bessie Nelson of Ashland. two sons, Ed (Connie) Arthur of Cannonsburg and Charles, Jr.(Sarah) Arthur of Catlettsburg; a granddaughter, Arlene (Dave) Corey; four great-grandchildren, Braidon Corey, Kaitlyn Bowling, Amanda Bowling and McKinley Corey, all of Catlettsburg; and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to a special caregiver, Marcy Salyers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at Preston Family Funeral Home with pastor David Cordial officiating. Burial will be in Hazlette Cemetery.
