Charles Edward Pelfrey, 85, of Ashland, husband of Wilma Chapman Pelfrey, died peacefully at his residence, Monday, July 3, 2017, following an extended illness.
Charles was born March 16, 1932, in West Liberty, a son of the late John and Chloe Alice Blevins Pelfrey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Edward Pelfrey; two brothers; and two sisters.
Charles was a retired overhead crane operator at AK Steel. He was a member of Poage Lodge 325 F&AM and former Pas Master of Fred Gross Lodge 953 F&AM, with a combined 50 years of Masonic service. He was an Indra Consistory, Valley of Covington, Scottish Rite Mason and member of El Hasa Shrine Temple. He was a member of American Legion Post 76, past Boyd County Democratic Chariman, Past Boyd County Commissioner and former Assistant Boyd County Judge Executive. Charles was a former Director of Westwood Boys Club and a former member of Fairview Board of Education. He was very instrumental in building the Fairview Football Field and the Boyd County Jail. In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, he is survived by a son, Doren Pelfrey and wife Rhonda; a grandson, Brody Edward Pelfrey; and a great-grandson, Blake Edward Pelfrey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at Preston Family Funeral Home by Brother Don Youing. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
