Claude's Story

Claude Workman, 89, of Ashland, died peacefully with his family at his bedside Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
He was born June 15, 1927, in Radner, W.Va., a son of the late John and Lillie Hampton Workman.
In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years Hazel McSorley Workman in 2004; and several siblings.
He retired from CSX Railroad as a conductor and served in the U.S. Army, Company A, 47th Infantry, from August 1945 to January 1947.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne Workman and wife Connie of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and David Workman and wife Rhonda of Ashland; four daughters, Donna Griffith and husband Delmaine, Wanda Jo Williams and husband Billy, Dinah Kemper, and Susan Dawn Workman, all of Ashland; one brother, Samuel J. Workman of Buchannan; two sisters, Wilma Ruth Douglas of Tolesboro and Thelma Zag of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff on 3J at King's Daughters Medical Center for the care and respect given to their father.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland with Brother Jesse McDavid officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland with military rites performed by Kenova American Legion Post 93. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
