David Allen Sturgill, 72, of Ashland, passed away Sunday evening, January 7, 2018, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness.
David was born May 11, 1945, in Ashland, to the late John W. Sturgill Sr. and Margaret Holmes Sturgill Fryc.
David was a former car salesman with Boyd County Ford and Fred Unrue Auto Sales.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Berscheit Sturgill; one brother, John W. Sturgill Jr.; and one sister, Bonnie Miller.
He leaves behind his daughter, Holly Lawson of Ashland; son-in-law, Jerry L. Lawson II of Worthington; his K-9 companion, Bella; and seven grand-dogs; along with a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Caniff Funeral Home with Tim Holmes officiating.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Jerry Lawson, Kenny Large, Andy Weinfurtner, Fred Unrue, Jimmy Dean Sturgill and Tim Holmes will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations may be sent to two charities close to David's heart, Voluntary Services Veterans Fund, C/O Huntington VA Medical Center, Attn. Fund #135, 1540 Spring Valley RD., Huntington, WV 25704 or to Alcoholics Anonymous.
