Douglas Power Newell Jr., 93, of South Shore, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, in SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born June 13, 1924, in Maysville, a son of the late Douglas Power Newell and Nellie (Steele) Newell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Wallingford and Caroline Pheathean; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Newell.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, U.S. Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient in World War II.
He owned and operated Delicious Fruits Apple Orchard for many years. He was a member of South Shore American Legion Post 276 and First United Methodist Church in South Shore.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Keibler Newell; three children, Betty Ann (Chris) Thompson, Douglas P. Newell III and William L. (Lisa) Newell; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore with Troy Poff officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery with military graveside rites by James Dickey American Legion Post 23.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
