Miss Elizabeth Brewer Jayne, 85, of Ashland, died Saturday, April 22, 2017.
She was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Ashland and was the younger daughter of the late John and Edith Brewer Jayne of Ashland.
She was the granddaughter of the late William P. and Emma Wheatly Brewer of Ashland and Professor William L. and Virgie Hamilton Jayne of Morehead.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her only brother, Dr. John William Jayne of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Elizabeth graduated from Ashland High School in 1949 and from the former Ashland Junior College in 1951. She earned her Bachelor of arts in 1953 and Master of Arts Degree from University of Kentucky. She attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a National Science Foundation Grant and completed the requirements for a Rank 1 teacher in Kentucky.
Elizabeth taught mathematics chemistry for 37 years at Ashland Senior High School and Paul G. Blazer High School. She retired from teaching in 1991.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was baptized in 1946.
She was a life member of University of Kentucky Alumni Association. While teaching, she belonged to National Council of teachers of Mathematics and Mathematics Association of America.
She is survived by one sister, Miss Emma Virginia Jayne of Ashland; several cousins; a niece; and four nephews.
Private funeral services were Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Ashland Cemetery.
Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland was in charge of arrangements.
