Ellis Everett Bentley, 96, of Tygart Bend Road in South Shore, stepped onto the shores of heaven Thursday, April 6, 2017.
Ellis was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Millstone, to Elbert and Sabrina Craft Bentley.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Adams Bentley in 2009; a daughter, Victoria in 1954; and an infant son, Jerome in 1949.
Ellis owned and operated a coal mine in the 50's in Millstone. He decided that the opportunities of farming would be a better way of life so Ellis and Ruth moved their seven children to a new farm on Tygart Bend in South Shore.
He then followed his passion of carpentry and farming for many years. He was a general foreman involved in the construction of several large buildings in the Ashland and Lexington area.
He loved anything outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. But more than that, he loved his Lord and cherished his wife and family. Ellis was a member and deacon of Old Regular Baptist Church of South Shore.
He is survived by his children, Carol (Frank) Martin of Lancaster, Yvonne (Bob) Woodard of Flatwoods, Jeff (Jean) Bentley of Union, Phillip (Linda Dale) Bentley of South Shore, Joyce Bentley of South Shore, Linda (John) Patterson of Troy, Ohio and Ellis "Ed" (Brenda) Bentley Jr. of Mt. Washington; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore with Brother Chester Allen and Pastor David Thomasson officiating. Interment will be in Siloam Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, and after noon Saturday at the funeral home.
