Mr. Farris Oney, 85, of Olive Hill, passed away Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
He was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Carter County, a son of the late Arvil and Alpha Tackett Oney.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Crawford Oney; two grandchildren, Jonathan Falkner and Kristy Roe; two brothers, Everett Oney and Larry Dale Oney; and three sisters, Vivian Carter, Anna Ruth Webb, and Carolyn Oney.
He was of the Primitive Baptist faith and a self-employed truck driver. He enjoyed riding horses, watching UK basketball, going to the post office and talking with friends.
Farris is survived by three sons, Farris Oney Jr. (Evelyn), Jeffrey Oney (Tammie) and Gary Oney (Shelia), all of Olive Hill; one daughter, Kathy Roe (Mitchell) of Greenup; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Denver Oney (Shirley) of Olive Hill; two sisters, Mary McKenzie (Romah) of Olive Hill and Wanda Davis (Ernest) of Wayne, W.Va.; and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill with Elder John Funk and Elder Eddy Lester officiating. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery in Olive Hill. Paul Richards, Jeff Oney Jr., Kris Oney, Jerrad Appleman, Shannon Oney and Blake Enix will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
