Fern Adkins, 83, of Sandy Hook, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Fern was born Oct. 5, 1934, at Beech Grove in Elliott County, the daughter of the late James and Florence Fannin Adkins.
She was also preceded in death by eight siblings, Irene Clevenger, Faye Blevins, Hattie Whitt, Lillie Salyers, Minnie Lyon, Kermit Adkins, Boss Adkins and Dude Adkins.
During her life, she worked as a waitress, a cashier at the local IGA, taught Headstart for North East and was employed by the Elliott County Board of Education. Her greatest accomplishment was her family..they were her world. She was a member of Sandy Hook First Baptist Church.
Fern is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jess Adkins; two sons, Rocky and wife Leah Adkins and Dave and wife Kathy Adkins; his grandchildren, Tori Adkins, Kristen and Josh Salyers, Branden and Emily Adkins, Michael David Adkins and Jennifer Adkins; three great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Abram and Jacob; two sisters, Ann Weddington of Sandy Hook and Sue Whitt of West Milton, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones who will sadly miss her.
A celebration of Fern's life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Brother Warren Vanover and Brother Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.
Friends may visit after 6 p.m. Friday and before 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice in Ashland or Sarah's Place in Sandy Hook.
