Floyd Burton Vermillion Jr.


Floyd Burton Vermillion Jr. passed away May 18th, 2019 in Murrrell's Inlet, S.C. at the age of 74.
Floyd was born June 22, 1944, in Bluefield, W.Va.
He graduated Bluefield High School, class of 1962, and was a member of the 1960 West Virginia state championship football team. Floyd proudly served in the U.S. Army with a tour in Vietnam, 1966-1967. After moving to Kentucky, Floyd began his career with Columbia Gas, from which he retired after 33 years.
In his retirement years Floyd lived in Murrell's Inlet, S.C. He enjoyed visits from his family and friends anytime they were near. Floyd was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, motorcycles, and watching football games.
Floyd will be remembered for his great sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and warm smile. Rarely did he meet a stranger, and was always available to help a friend in need.
Floyd is preceded in death by his father, Floyd B. Vermillion Sr.; mother, Ida J. Dove; brother, Hobart (Jenkie) Gundel; sister, Lucille Vass; and great nephew, Anthony Shires.
He is survived by his wife Shela Vermillion; his children, Michael Vermillion, Robin Vermillion and husband Jason Litteral, and Maddoxx Vermillion; stepchildren, Melinda (John) Polzer, Michelle Traylor; grandchild, Hilo Litteral; sister, Nancy Rush; his six nieces and their children.
Floyd was laid to rest on June 22, 2019 in his home town of Bluefield, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests the following: Donate a book to your local library dedicated to the memory of Floyd B. Vermillion Jr. or make a donation to the Veterans of Foreign War, your local homeless shelter, or the diabetes research foundation of your choice.
