Fredrich Carr Penick, 75, of Wurtland, fought the fight, kept the faith and finished his race as he battled cancer. Fred left for heaven Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
He was born Febr. 11, 1942, in Ashland, a son of the late Willard Carr Penick and Wanda Miller Penick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Carolyn Penick.
As a proud American, Fred served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed walking, taking his dog Maggie for a ride every day, camping, riding his Harley and spending time with family and friends.
He retired from AK Steel and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia Holt Penick of Wurtland; a son, Scott Penick and wife Christie of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Valerie Sue Penick of South Point, Ohio; three grandchildren, Justin Penick of Ashland, Aaron Penick of Ashville, N.C. and Madison Sparks of Ashland; a sister, Sherry Sue Weis of Ashland; his nephews, Greg, Brian and Paul; and three nieces, Tara, Lora and Paula.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Pastor Mike Rice officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by U.S. Marine Corps and Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Fred's name may be sent to Fairview Baptist Building Fund.
