Gary Glendon Washburn, 70, of Ironton, Ohio passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, in Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Oct. 5, 1946, the son of the late Carl Glendon "Glen" Washburn.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Jamison.
Gary attended Rock Hill High School and retired in 2012 from CSX Railroad in Russell as a Locomotive Electrician. He was a U.S. Navy and Army Veteran. Gary served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. He enjoyed cruising through the country with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was a member of Southern Ohio Sportsman Club and an avid fisherman and hunter, who loved to turkey hunt. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gail Rowe Washburn, whom he married Jan. 21, 1972; a son, Keith A. (Stephanie) Washburn of Chillicothe, Ohio; a daughter, Keri E. (Scott) Robinson of Madison, Ind.; three grandchildren, Alexis K. (Tyler) Holycross of Columbus, Ohio, Nicholas G.A. Washburn of Chillicothe, Ohio and Nathaniel C. Washburn of Chillicothe, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Scarlett G. Holycross of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Carolyn Callicoat of Ironton, Ohio; a brother, Michael "Mouse" Washburn of Ironton, Ohio; and a lifelong friend, Don Hensley.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton, Ohio with Pastor Ace Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 8850.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the funeral home.
