Geneva's Story

Geneva Bowe Miller, 91, died of natural causes Dec. 18, 2017, in Lenoir City, Tenn.
Geneva was born on Dec. 30, 1925 in Wayne, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude Bailey Crockett and Roland Crockett of Wayne, W.Va.; her twin sister, Geneda Moore; three sisters, Mary Adkins, Clara Hunter and Dora Letha Adkins; and two brothers, Alan and Victor Crockett.
Geneva grew up on a dairy farm in Wayne, with six brothers and sisters. After graduating from Wayne High School, she married Grover C. Bowe and they operated a restaurant near Wayne High School for several years.
In 1951, they moved to Ashland, where Geneva worked several years with National Mines Company as a PBX operator. Later, she worked for Armed Forces Examining and Recruiting Station, until her retirement in the 1970's.
She and Grover were avid golfers and she won several tournaments at Sandy Creek Golf Course.
After her husband passed away in 1992, Geneva spent her time as a community advocate and volunteer at the Paramount Arts Center, YWCA, Community Hospice and First United Methodist Church. She was a Kentucky colonel and was very active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Geneva met Carl Miller in the late 90's and they married in 1999. After Carl's death in 2011, Geneva moved to Tennessee to be closer to her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ball and husband Robert Ball of Loudon, Tenn.; two grandchildren, David Ball and wife Alexis and their three children, Madelyn, Jillian and Oliver, all of Broomfield, Colo., and Darren Ball and wife Heather and their two children, Wade and Gregory, all of Palmyra, Va.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
A private family service was Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City, Tenn.
An internment service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland.
