Geneva M. Justice Slone, 82, of Cannonsburg, died peacefully Dec. 20, 2017, at her home. She courageously fought Lymphoma for 15 years and only recently became ill.
Geneva was born at home April 27, 1935, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Julius and Josie Anderson Justice.
She received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Pikeville College after graduating high school at Pikeville Academy. She completed her Master's degree in Education at Morehead State University in 1971.
Mrs. Slone taught first grade for 39 years. She first taught in the Pike County School district and upon moving to Boyd County in 1963 she taught for remainder of her career at Cannonsburg Elementary for 31 years before retiring in 1994.
Geneva was a member of Beech Street Christian Church, where she leaves a host of loving friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Nathaniel Slone, Jr. of Cannonsburg; a daughter, Paula Slone Burdette of Cannonsburg; two grandchildren, Matthew Burdette of Cannonsburg and Julie Burdette of Dunbar, W.Va; two brothers, Jay Justice and wife Bonnie of Richmond and Terry Justice and wife Valerie of Baltimore Md.; and a number of dear relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel in Ashland with Pastor Rob O'Lynn officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at the funeral home.
