George Paul "Sam" Sammons, 76, of Worthington, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at his residence.
Mr. Sammons was born Sept. 28, 1940, in Greenup County, to the late George W. and Lucy Sammons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Sammons and Fred Sammons.
George proudly served and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He then went to work for U.S. Postal Service, where he retired. He was a member of Raceland Christian Church. George loved taking photographs, camping, being out in nature and riding his ATV with his dog Peaches. Most importantly, he was a man that loved the Lord, his family and his country above and beyond anything.
Left behind to carry on his legacy is his wife of 54 years, Hester Gallion-Sammons; two sons, Paul (Rebecca) Sammons and Matthew (Mollie) Sammons; five grandchildren, Courtney Sammons, Brady Sammons, Jack Sammons, Aron Sammons and Sydney Sammons; two sisters, Jane Sammons and Ethel Hoanaker; a sister-in-law, Wanda (Terry) Irons; a brother-in-law, Buddy Gallion; and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Raceland Christian Church with Pastors Jason Lykins and Greg Denton officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
