Gloria Irene Gibbs Wenning, 80, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, in Community Hospice Care Center with her loving family at her side.
Mrs. Wenning was born May 22, 1937, in Ashland, to the late Buena Ester and Nannie Irene Cantrell Gibbs.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Elmer Richard Wenning; three brothers, Elwood Gibbs, Carl Gibbs and Jim Gibbs; and three sisters, Dorla Gambill, Lou Adkins and Wanda Dickens.
Gloria attended Ashland Schools and was a local business owner. She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 35 years, childrens choir teacher and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Gloria loved the sun, swimming, playing tennis, working in her flowers and taking care of her grandbabies, great-grandbabies, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by a son, Rick Wenning and wife Jamie of Ashland; a daughter, Cheryl Hicks of Ashland; a brother, Tony Gibbs; a sister, Janet Marsh; her grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Pennington of Ashland, Julie (Josh) Yates of Ashland, Cassie (Jose) Mendoza of Ashland, Kendra (Tristan) Burke of Catlettsburg, Whitney (Matt) Steele of Ashland and Chelsea Wenning of Ashland; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street in Catlettsburg with Pastors Paul Badgett, Matt Shamblin and Mike Blankenship officiating. A private committal service for the family will be at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
