Harold Lloyd Tackett, 94, of Flatwoods, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.
He was born May 1, 1923, in Naples, a son of the late Arbit and Martha Bonifacious Tackett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Justice Tackett; two brothers, Carlos Leon Tackett and Earl Eugene Tackett; and two sisters, Bertha Tackett and Pauline Tackett.
He was a member of Cannonsburg United Methodist Church and retired from the United States Postal Service. Harold was a World War II Army Veteran, a Prisoner Of War and a Purple Heart recipient. He was captured by the Germans in Utweiler, Germany in the Region of Saarland and taken to Heppenheim, Germany prison camp. When freed by allies he was taken to 48th General Hospital in Paris, France, where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Tackett was a 1942 graduate of Wurtland High School.
He is survived by one son, Gregory Shawn Tackett of Flatwoods; one brother, Roy (Gail) Tackett of Flatwoods; two sisters-in-law, Delores Tackett and Mary Lee Tackett; and several other family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with Rev. Tyler Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, and after noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.
