Hearl's Story

Smiley Daniels, 84, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord Monday, December 4.
Smiley was born to Jesse Daniels and Nancy Akers Daniels of Flatwoods, Kentucky.
His family was a large and loving one, his siblings included Jewell Faye Kramer, Carl E. Daniels, Bessie (Charles) Miller and Herbert (Janice) Daniels who all preceded him in death and Bob (Geneva-deceased) Daniels, Frank (Thelma-deceased) Daniels and Ruth and Charles Langdon.
He met the great love of his life, Roberta Lyon in 1949, and they spent the next 66 happy years together. During that time he worked as a brakeman for C & O Railroad where he also served in every elected position for the UTU Local 1389. He earned the nickname "Smiley" during his years of union leadership as everyone remarked that he was able to keep a smile on his face no matter what situation he was in.
He was the Sunday School Superintendent for Smith Branch Church of God for 23 years later attending Flatwoods 1st Baptist Church where he was a member for the rest of his life.
He enjoyed fishing, listening to gospel music and spending time with his family who meant the world to him.
His legacy lives on in his children, Gary (Linda) Daniels of Barboursville, David (Judy) Daniels of Russell, Cheryl (Denny) Deborde of Flatwoods, and Kevin (deceased) and Vanessa Daniels of Ironville. His love, joy and integrity will be remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Michael and Kate Daniels of Denver (Maggie and Amelia), Joe and Jess Daniels of Longwood (Emma), Davida and Joe Hansel of Cincinnati (Liam), Daniel and Megan Deborde of Cincinnati (Aiden and Imagin), David Deborde of Ashland, and Kevanna Daniels of Ironville. He will also be missed by many family and friends including his neighbors, Tony and Rose.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, December 7 at Bridges Christian Church in Russell, Kentucky, with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastors Jim Nichols and Johnny Riley officiating. The burial following at Golden Oaks Cemetery in Ashland.
Services are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland.
For he was a good man and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith; and many people were added unto the Lord.
