Henry Howard, 86, of South Shore, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, in Prestine Senior Living in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born June 1, 1931, in Ashland, a son of the late Harris Howard and Carlie Thomas Howard.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sudell Howard.
Henry was a member of First Christian Church in South Shore, 57 year member of Harrison Fullerton Lodge 937 and 47 year member of Order of the Eastern Star in South Shore. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and served in the Korean War. Henry loved the outdoors, golf, fishing and hunting. He was thankful for his brothers-in-law for teaching him to play the guitar. Henry loved to share sling shot he made with his friends and wood carving. He is now free of pain.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Joseph Howard, who he married March 27, 1953; two sons, Steve (Cindy) Howard of South Shore and Joe (Vickie) Howard of Fayetteville, WVa.; one daughter, Cathy Roberts of Clarksville, Ga.; two brothers, Creed (Teen) Howard of Columbus, Ohio and Dana Howard of Salyersville; one sister, Charlotte (Danny) Hayden of South Shore; seven grandchildren, Matt Howard, Ginny Singleton, Allison Delong, Tom Howard, Elizabeth Howard, Astraea Howard and Stephen Roberts; five great-grandchildren, Mylie Padgett, Will Howard, Josie Howard, Ryan Kasen and Corbin Singleton; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Pastor Brett Unger officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County with military rites by Portsmouth, Ohio James Dickey American Legion Post 23.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Christian Church in South Shore.
