Jack Bennett Carter


Jack Bennett Carter passed away Friday, December 21, at home following a brief illness.
Born in Pike County, Ky., he was the son of the late Albert C. and Elsie Thompson Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Minnie Webb Carter. Surviving are daughter Mary Carter Berrios and grandson, Ryan Berrios.
Mr. Carter served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a maintenance mechanic at Calgon Corporation and bred Polled Hereford cattle. He was a lifelong member of Green Hill Lodge 521 Free & Accepted Masons of Kentucky and was a Scottish Rite Mason. He enjoyed woodcarving and was a member of the Piedmont Wood Carvers Club. A devoted Christian, he was instrumental in establishing Garner Baptist Church in Rush, Ky. where he served as Deacon and attended Clearview Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, S.C. In retirement, he and wife Minnie enjoyed homes in Flat Rock, N.C. and Titusville, Fla., finally settling in Greenville, S.C. to be near his grandson, Ryan.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 28, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, 639 N. Main Street, Greenville, S.C. The funeral will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 12 Noon in the funeral home Chapel, with entombment following at Graceland East Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
