Jacquelyn D. Coleman Helem, 88, of Ashland, KY, passed away November, 29, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Jackie Helem was born December 8, 1928, in Ashland.
She was a longtime member and served as senior missionary of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Ashland. She was also very active with the Boyd County Chapter NAACP and a board member of United Communities to Advance our Neighborhoods, Inc. (UCAN). She served on a reunion committee for her alma mater the segregated Booker T. Washington School. She led Bible studies and organized prayer meetings for fellow residents at SCOPE Towers prior to relocating to the Boyd Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eleanor Coleman; her husband, Carl C. Helem; two daughters, Bobetta L. and Carla C. Helem.
Survivors include her son, Bruce P. Helem of Jacksonville, FL; cousins, Sheliya Rosenbaum (Eleanor Clark) (Jeff) of Granada Hills, CA, Shirley (Joseph) Williams of Huntington, WV, Billy Brown of Orlando, FL, Elizabeth Brown of Ashland, Sonny Higgins of Rockville, MD, Richie M. Suddenth and Janice Keeton of Sun City, FL; godchildren, Caleb, Cameron, Jim and Jocelyn Martin, very special friends, Brenda Martin, Susie McKinney, Mary Kay and Chuck Adams; her roommate, Lois Davis; and a host of extended family and friends.
As were her wishes, graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel (1518 Belmont St.) with Pastor Stanley McDonald officiating.
