J D Sloan, 74, of Ashland, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 9, 1943, in Ashland, a son of the late Carl and Ann Osteen Sloan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Sloan.
He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Catlettsburg, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. J D was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanie Edwards Sloan; a son, Thomas (Catherine) Sloan of Russell; a daughter, Tonya (Billy) Harris of Catlettsburg; a brother, Carl (Ann Lee) Sloan of Ashland; six grandchildren, the late Kyle Harris, Kevin and Kari Harris, Thomas Sloan Jr., and Jennifer and Matthew Sloan; and a great-granddaughter, Skyler Ann Sloan.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Minister Bob Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in Cribbs Hill Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
