Joleen's Story

Joleen Ramey, 69, of Carter Caves Road in Olive Hill, was embraced by God Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her residence.
She was born July 31,1947, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Lola Kiser Justice.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William "Keith" Ramey; a granddaughter, Lois Ramey Tolliver; one brother, Lovell "Babe" Kiser; and two sisters, Lois Swayne and Wanda Justice.
Joleen was a member of Carter Christian Church and a retired school bus driver for more than 30 years with Carter County Board of Education. She loved her bus kids. She formed the Carter City Community Homemakers club in 1972 and served as Club President. She served on Carter County Cooperative Extension Council and District Board until the time of her death. She was a Kentucky colonel, Kentucky Cooperative Extension Master Farm Homemaker and member KEHA association and served as State Vice President. She was a member of Northeast Area Homemakers Association and served as President, Carter County Extension Homemakers and served as President and Carter Caves Homemakers Club. She enjoyed sewing, working in her flower gardens, reading, farming with her husband, Bill, UK basketball, collecting her treasures and spending time with her family and many wonderful friends. She was always busy doing community projects and seeking other volunteers to assist her. She was always striving to make Carter County better. She helped initiate and form Friends of Carter Caves, Backyard Bloomers Gardening Club and Carter County Quilt Blocks on Barns. She loved Kentucky Cooperative Extension Services and dedicated more than 45 years of volunteer services.
Joleen is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, William "Bill" Ramey of Olive Hill; two sons, Eric (Sherry) Buckler of Carter City and Kevin (Denise) Ramey of Worthington, Ohio; a daughter, Lisa (Shayne) Easterling of Olive Hill; one sister, Brenda Thacker of Lucasville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Briana (BJ) Garvin, Hunter (Special Friend-Kayla Ferrell) Easterling, Mikaela (Special Friend-Ryan Rice) Buckler, Will (Special Friend-Lizzy Saldana) Easterling, Lydia Ramey and Drew Ramey; one great-grandson, Cameron Tolliver; and a host of family and wonderful friends who will greatly miss her dearly.
Ms. Jo's family would like to thank Community Hospice of Ashland, especially Renee Gilliam, Stephanie Adams, Jamie Green and Bonnie Seagraves, for their continued love and support while traveling this journey.
A celebration of Ms. Jo's life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Terrell Webb, Paul Schmidt and Eddie Wiler officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, and after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in memory of Ms. Joleen Ramey to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.
