Leonard's Story

Leonard "Rocky" Layne, 86, from Lexington, formerly of Bellefonte, husband of Joanne Clarke Layne from Lexington, peacefully passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his residence.
He was a native of Williamson, W.Va., and the son of the late George and Lillian Phillips Layne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George Layne Jr., Don Layne and Bill Layne.
Rocky retired from Ashland Oil Refinery and graduated from Morehead State University, where he played football on a scholarship.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joe Layne and Bruce (Lorraine) Layne, both from Lexington; one daughter, Melody Layne from Lexington; two sisters, Joyce (Cappy) Hatfield from Barboursville, W.Va., and Joanne (James) Yost from Greensboro, N.C.; and a special caregiver, Brenda Dennis from Lexington.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
