Leonard Sloas Jr., 92, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, formerly of Catlettsburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, June 24, 2017.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Sloas Sr. and Vada Waddell Sloas; sisters, Violet Drake, Mavis Traylor and Pauline Sloas; brothers, John Wilber and Gene Sloas.
Leonard was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church for 55 years and served as head usher. He served his country as a corporal during World War II in the Army AirCore.
Leonard drove a transport truck for Ashland Oil 39 years. He retired in 1987. He was a member of the Hampton Masonic Lodge in Catlettsburg.
Leonard loved gardening and sharing his produce with many. He was always helping others and doing the Lords work.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley Roberts Sloas; daughters, Debbie Vicini and special friend, Danny Shannon, Pam (Tim) Maynard and Tracey (Kevin) Harr; grandchildren, Allison (Patrick) Martin, Ryan Vicini, David (Logan) Maynard, and Lindsey (James) Hagewood; great-granddaughters, McCail Violet Maynard and Stevie Ruth Hagewood (on the way); a sister, Lorraine Warren; a sister-in-law, Shelby Sloas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in the sanctuary of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Mike Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Jr. Furnace Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the church.
Kilgore and Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to The Gideon's International or Oakland Avenue Baptist Church.
