Mary Louise Mullins Elkins, 104, of Wurtland, departed this life on May 10, 2017, at her home in Wurtland, surrounded by her family. She is now at rest in the paradise of God where all is peace, joy and love.
She was born Sept. 17, 1912, on Lick Fork of Beefhide in Pike County, to the late Tandy Wilson and Sabra Ethel (Greer) Mullins.
On Aug. 26, 1935, she married William Creighton Elkins and they spent 60 blessed years together until his death in 1995.
She is survived by four sons, John M. (Hazel), Billy W. (Patsy), Gary C. (Glenda)and Dennis B. (Nelvia); two daughters, Patricia M. Elkins and Wilma J. Montjoy; 29 grandchildren; and 126 great and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Thomas Alvin, Harold David and Gordon Bennett; six brothers, Samuel, John Morgan, Roby, Roy, Thomas Alvin and Malloy Mullins; and four sisters, Maggie Tackett, Flora Burke, Lexie Thompson and Ada Mullins.
Mother joined the Old Regular Baptist Church in September of 1938 at Pilgrim Rest on Beefhide. Later she brought her membership to Little Rosa on Smith Branch in Greenup County where she remained a faithful member until her death.
Mother loved gardening, canning and taking care of her family. She loved having her family and friends come and visit her. Most of all she enjoyed attending church.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Philadelphia Assoc. Bldg. on 5th Avenue and Riverside Drive in Worthington by Elders of the Old Regular Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, until the time of the funeral services Sunday at the Philadelphia Assoc. Bldg. with services being at 7 p.m. nightly.
Wright's Funeral Home in Greenup is in charge of the arrangements.
