He laid down to take a nap and awoke in the arms of Jesus. A beautiful son, brother, grandson and friend, Michael Benjamin "Benji" Sycks, 38, of Ashland, passed away, Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 1, 1978, in Ironton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Edward Sycks and George and Ruby Burton.
Benji was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church. He was a 1997 graduate of Paul Blazer High School where he played on the football team. He loved attending concerts with his friends.
Prior to his illness, he was a technical assistant with AT&T and previously worked with an electrical contractor.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Joy Humphrey Burton and William David Burton of Ashland and Randy Lee Sycks of Lancaster, Ohio; a sister, Jennifer Lee Harte and husband Bo of Louisville; two half-brothers, Cody and Cory Sycks of Ironton, Ohio; a stepbrother, David Lee Burton of Ashland; two stepsisters, Susan Arnett and husband Jay and Missy Johnson and husband David of Ashland; and his grandparents, John and Connie Humphrey of Ashland, Margaret Humphrey of Ashland and June Sycks of Shade, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Pastor Matt Shamblin officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
