Nelson's Story

Nelson Porter Jr., 66, of Brown Ridge in Elliott County, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at his residence.
Nelson was born June 7, 1951, the son of the late Nelson Porter and the late Opal Dehart Porter Fults.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jolene and husband John D. Johnson and Sara Skaggs; five Brothers, Dr. Arvis Porter, Arlie Porter, Armott and wife Edna Porter, Oscar and wife Lillian Porter and Clyde Porter; a sister-in-law, Rosie Porter; three stepsisters, June and husband Cecil Hall, Betty and husband Buster Felty, Nora and husband Floyd McDavid.
He was of the Baptist faith, a member of Hepburn Masonic Lodge 576 F&AM in Sandy Hook. He was a Marine Port Engineer with Ashland Oil/Marathon.
Nelson is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Wallace Porter; two sons, Brady Blevins Porter and wife Tierra of Morehead and W.C. Porter; a daughter, Stephanie Michelle Porter and husband Mike Watsonof of Fleming County; three grandchildren, Austin Chase Porter, Alexandria Blevins Porter and Kara Lucia Watson; a brother, Donald Porter of Morehead; a sister, Lyda Porter Skaggs and husband Kenny Skaggs of Sandy Hook; a stepsister, Jenny Murphy and husband Doc Murphy of Grayson; two sisters-in-law, Dr. Betty Porter and Linda Porter, both of Morehead; a brother-in-law, L.C. Skaggs of Flemingsburg; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends; and a special friend and brother by choice, Calvin Wayne Johnson of Elliottsville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Brother Willie Sturgill officiating. Burial in Elliott County Memory Gardens.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
