Pamela's Story

Text size

Pamela Sloas Maynard, 62, of Fruit Cove, Fla., went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of August 5, 2017.
Pam was born Jan. 11, 1955, in Catlettsburg, to Leonard and Shirley Sloas.
She was recently preceded in death by her father, Leonard Sloas Jr. of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, who she eagerly anticipated seeing again.
She was a graduate of Catlettsburg High School, Ashland Community College and Morehead State University.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Pam was a church instrumentalist and an accomplished musician. She has played both piano and organ in worship for Fruit Cove Baptist Church Worship ministry over the past 24 years. Pam has also served alongside Tim as pastor's wife.
Pam was a registered nurse specializing in orthopedic surgery and spent the last quarter century at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. During her tenure there, she received numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious 100 Great Nurses of Florida award. Nursing, for Pam, was a calling and the needs of her patients always came first.
Her interests were varied, including gardening, sewing, baking, swimming and most recently grandmothering. She was a comedienne and entertained many groups with her personification of an alter-ego named Enamel Carver.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Dr. Timothy Maynard; a daughter, Allison (Patrick) Martin of Russellville, Ala.; a son, David (Logan) of St. Johns; a granddaughter, McCail Violet Maynard; her mother, Shirley (Roberts) Sloas of Franklin Furnace, Ohio; two sisters, Debbie Vicini (Danny Shannon) of Kenova, W.Va., and Tracey Harr (Kevin) of Grove City, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Mark (Beth)Maynard of Ashland; and an "honorary" sister, Tanya Roberts Klein (Tim) of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was loved and will be missed by her co-workers and friends and will be greatly missed by her loving Fruit Cove Baptist Church family.
Of course, she leaves a deep and abiding hole in the hearts of each member of her family who loved her deeply.
Pam has a large and loving family, some of whom met her in Heaven.
"We grieve, but not as those who are without hope."
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, in Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 State Road 13 in St. Johns, Fla.
