Phoebe's Story

Phoebe Elizabeth Edwards, 98, of Venice, Fla., died Sunday, April 9, 2017, in Bay Breeze Health and Rehabilitation Center in Venice.
She was born Nov. 22, 1918, in Paintsville, the daughter of the late Jeff and Mary Lyon Stafford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edwards; and siblings, Daisy Preston, Mitchell Stafford and Denver Stafford.
As a youth she enjoyed spending time on the Ohio River and participating in women's sports. Phoebe raised her two daughters in Huntington, W.Va., and relocated later to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked for Landmark Farm Bureau until her retirement. She became a resident of Warsaw, Ind., in 1983 and spent many happy years living in Retired Tigers Apartments, where she enjoyed taking long walks with her friends and spending time with her family.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and a devout Christian. Her greatest pleasures came from reading the Bible, listening to hymns and enjoying the company of her family and pets.
She is survived by two daughters, Nell Taylor (Sherman) of Venice, Fla., and Brenda Sanders of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren, Sheree Taylor (John Weihmuller), Sherman Taylor, Heather Long (Kim) and Christopher Sanders (Marienne); and nine great-grandchildren, Matthew, Sherman, Jennifer, Devin, Jessica, Ellie, Thomas, Anna and Gabby.
The service will be private with burial in Ashland Cemetery.
A celebration of her life will be at a later date.
Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
