Robert Earl McKenzie, 83, of Russell, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Bob was born Oct. 27, 1934, to the late Earl and Thelma Blake McKenzie. He was raised in Flatwoods, lived his early married life in Greenup and the last 42 years in Russell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James McKenzie; and two sisters, Pat Griffith and Bonnie Rayburn.
He was a member of the Russell High School graduating class of 1952.
He was retired from DuPont/Pactiv in Wurtland and in his early years, worked for C&O Railway, where he was Local 344 secretary.
He loved his family better than life, but always put his Lord and Savior first. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Russell for 31 years, where he served as deacon and other positions. He loved his Pastor and church family so much as they did him.
His grandchildren filled his heart with such joy. No grandchildren were ever loved more.
Bob was a Kentucky colonel and a 2016 Russell Athletic Hall of Fame Team Inductee as a member of the 1951 football team.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Juanita Phillips McKenzie; two sons, R.B. McKenzie (Christie) of Bellefonte and Mickey McKenzie (Shanda) of Flat Rock, N.C.; one daughter, Mary Harless (Clarence) of Bellefonte; six grandchildren, Blake Harless (Becky) of Russell, Michael McKenzie of Smithfield, Mo., Robert McKenzie (Jessica) of Enodra, Kan., Courtney Sease (David) of Columbia, S.C., Kelsey McKenzie (Patrick Reid) of Lexington and Chloe McKenzie of Bellefonte; seven great-grandchildren, Emily Harless, Tyler Harless, David Harless, Copper Sease, Tanner Sease, Bobby McKenzie and Kaylee McKenzie; three stepgrandchildren, Cameron Hubbard, Kinsey Olsen and Courtney Overstreet; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Russell with pastor Ken Gowin officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour before service Saturday at the church.
