Roberta "Butch" Anne Adkins, 77, of Ashland, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018.
She was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Robert and Icie Marie Clemons Newman.
Butch was a substitute teacher in the Boyd County School System for many years, teaching all ages and all classes. During her teaching career, Butch volunteered her time prepping the academic teams for competitions. She had a vast knowledge of many subjects and a talent for teaching children with special needs. After retirement, Butch continued to volunteer in the classroom.
She was an active member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where through the years she taught Sunday school and Bible School.
After retirement, Butch and Glenn traveled extensively, but mostly enjoyed spending time on their houseboat at Long Bow Marina entertaining family and friends.
Butch is survived by her husband, Glenn R. Adkins; a son, Dr. Brian Adkins (Dedre) of Bowling Green a daughter, Dr. Lisa Fugate (Bryan) of Ashland; a sister-n-law, Joyce Brown of Catlettsburg; three grandchildren, Mallory Adkins of Orlando, Fla., Christopher Fugate of Lexington and Hillary Adkins of Bowling Green; four nieces and their families and many cousins and friends.
A private funeral service was at Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Tate officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Burial Park.
