Roberta's Story

Roberta Lyon Daniels, 84, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 4, 2017, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
She was born in 1932 to Proctor R. Lyon and Ethel Hayes Lyon of Greenup.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Aliene Nelson, Addie Lyon, Louise Kilgore and Genevia Fritz.
She met the love of her life, Hearl Joseph "Smiley" Daniels in 1949 when he spotted her on the school bus. They married a year later after her graduation and were happily married for 66 years. They were the joy of each other's lives and all who knew them remarked on their love for one another. Her happiest times included holding Smiley's hand while sitting on the porch, enjoying nature and travelling with friends and family.
It was to her family that she devoted her life. She and Smiley raised four children, Gary (Linda) Daniels of Barboursville, David (Judy) Daniels of Russell, Cheryl (Denny) Deborde of Flatwoods and Kevin (deceased) and Vanessa Daniels of Ironville.
More than anything, she took pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who fondly remember her kindness and warmth, constant encouragement and never-ending love. Her memory lives on with Michael and Kate Daniels of Denver (Maggie and Amelia), Joe and Jess Daniels of Longwood (Emma), Davida and Joe Hansel of Cincinnati (Liam), Daniel and Megan Deborde of Cincinnati (Aiden and Imagin), David Deborde of Ashland and Kevanna Daniels of Ironville.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and her siblings, Proctor Lyon Jr., Doris Jo Collett and Charles Lyon.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Bridges Christian Church in Russell. Internment will be in Golden Oaks Cemetery in Ashland.
Visitation will be after noon Saturday at the church.
