Ronald's Story

Ronald Keith Wright, 78, of Bellefonte, passed peacefully in University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center Nov. 5, 2016, surrounded by his family and watched the sunset as he waved goodbye.
He was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Beckley, W.Va., the only child to the late Virginia Capitola Floyd and Elmer Wright.
He was a 1956 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley and attended Marshall University. Ron began his military career in 1955 as an intelligence specialist with the 150th Armored Cavalry, West Virginia Army National Guard. He achieved the rank of Specialist 3 with qualifications as Marksman and Sharpshooter. Ron was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard and became a member of the U.S. Army in 1958. While in the Army, Ron rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class with qualifications in Airborne School and Rifle Sharpshooter. From 1962 to 1969, Ron served as Infantry Operations and Intelligence Specialist with 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Ron completed his service to his country Aug. 7th, 1969.
He was a business owner, dog lover, beach bum and loving spouse and caregiver to his late wife, Carolyn Slater Wright, who passed away in 2013. He was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland and gave generously of his time to outreach ministry. Ron made his public profession of faith and was baptized Feb. 8, 2009. He was a weekly regular at the Men's Breakfast, a special volunteer in the kitchen for Vacation Bible School each year and a vital part of the World Outreach Department. He also volunteered weekly at the River Cities Harvest community ministry. His love for helping people in various capacities was immeasurable.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Leigh Ann Tubaugh (Daniel) of Charlotte,N.C., Marvin Chadwick Faulkner (Stephanie) of Mt. Sterling and Megan Suzanne Boggs (Matt) of Huntington, W.Va.; his four grandchildren, Madeline Lorelei Tubaugh, David Mason Tubaugh, Graham Chadwick Faulkner and Lauren Lynn Faulkner; as well as his fur baby and companion, Molly.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland with The Rev. Dr.Isaac "Ike" Nicholson and The Rev. Larry Sivis officiating. A small reception will follow at the church for those in attendance.
