Ruby's Story

Ruby Nunley Chaney, 88, of Catlettsburg, peacefully passed away, Aug. 30, 2017, in Woodland Oaks in Ashland, surrounded by loved ones.
Ruby was born Feb. 3, 1929 in Durbin.
She was the widow of the late Garland Chaney Jr.; and the daughter of the late Ernest and Isabelle Nunley.
Ruby is survived by four sons and their spouses, Ernest Daniel "Dan" Chaney and Billie, Ricky Gene Chaney and Angela, Garland "Butch" Chaney III and Deborah and Thomas Lee Chaney and Michelle; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was salutatorian of the 1945 graduating class of Boyd County High School and devoted her life to the service of others.
In addition to raising four boys, she was a lifelong and beloved member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 55 years. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her kindness, gentle wisdom, sense of wonder and mirth can only be matched by her deep devotion to God and family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Hyland Heights Missionary Baptist Church located at 7623 McComis Drive in Catlettsburg with Pastors Jeff Ferguson and Rodney Hale officiating. Her final resting place will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home located at 2702 Panola Street in Catlettsburg.
