Ruth's Story

Ruth Elizabeth Baldridge Mellon, 103, of Ashland, graduated to her eternal home Friday, April 12, 2017, in Woodland Oaks in Ashland.
Ruth was born July 19, 1913, in Floyd County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zachariah Taylor Baldridge and Lucretia Rice Music Baldridge; her husband, Donald Clark Mellon; her son-in-law, Dr. Claude Ronald Lee; and five brothers and sisters.
Ruth was the oldest member of Wildwood First Church of God. She was involved in many areas of the church. She taught Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible School, was a member of the choir, served in the Women of the Church of God and participated in the church's quilting circle.
Ruth worked at the Good News Book Shop for more than 40 years. Many carry a Bible now that she engraved while working there. Ruth loved her job where she witnessed to countless shoppers. Her true love and joy was the church.
In later years she loved having pastors and friends of the church visit her at Woodland Oaks. She touched many lives at Woodland Oaks from workers to volunteers. Her love of Christ shown through every aspect of her life.
Ruth enjoyed cooking for others, sewing, reading her Bible and spending time with her granddaughter. She loved to listen to the Christian radio program by Jim Franklin that was on Saturday nights. Most of all she enjoyed doing things for others.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Lucretia Mellon Lee of Ashland; her granddaughter, Jenna Elizabeth Lee of Ashland; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland with Pastor Steve Harris officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call after noon Monday at the funeral home.
