Thurman J. Ross, 81, of Argillite, KY, went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 13, 2018, at his home.
Mr. Ross was born August 13, 1936, in Blaine, KY, a son of the late Henry Chilton and Molly Genevieve Moore Ross.
He was a retired millwright from AK Steel. He was a youth choir leader for many years at Williams Creek Church of God. He later attended Argillite Nazarene Church where he was a youth leader for several years.
He loved to fish, hunt and coon hunting was one of his favorites. He loved to play gospel music. He played guitar in many gospel groups, The Revelators, Way Makers Children and the Ross Family Band were a few of the groups.
He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Thurman was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Hazel Frances Gillum Ross; one son, Darrell Wayne (Velma) Ross of Argillite; one daughter, Patricia "Patty" Lynn (Dave) Stamper of Centerville, Ohio; two sisters, Mary (Herbert) Witten and Delores (James) Tunstill both of Argillite; five grandchildren, Shawna (Brent) Salyers, Kayla (Steve) Peters, Courtney (Justin) Clarke, Zach (Emily) Stamper and Ross Stamper; 11 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Tanner, Braydon, Madison, Jackson, Brynlee, Carson, Zane, Charlie J., Silas and Annie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Rev. James Harris and Rev. Roger Ross. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, KY.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thurman's honor to the American Heart Association.
