Wanda's Story

Wanda Lee George Waggoner, 88, of Ashland, passed away at her home surrounded by her family Sunday, June 25, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Elsie Salyers George; her husband, Alonzo "Woody" Waggoner Jr.; a sister, "Bobbie" Walker; two daughters, Deborah and Vada Lynn; and a special brother-in-law, Nelson Walker.
She was an adventurous spirit who loved to read, cook, travel and tell stories. Wanda was a member of the Chit Chat Canasta Club, the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Ironville Freewill Baptist Church.
She began her career in the kitchen of Danleyton Elementary School, worked her way up to the Greenup County Board of Education central office and retired as a manager of the Food Service Program.
She is survived by a son, Stephen A. Waggoner (Vicki) of Flatwoods; a daughter, Suzy N. Waggoner Ferguson (Richard) of Ashland; and five grandchildren, Bradford Scott, Kenneth Ray, Erin Renee, Travis Eugene and Brandi Shae; and a host of beloved cousins, "adopted" grandchildren and a very fat, sassy cat.
Serving as pallbearers will be Suzy N. Waggoner Ferguson, Richard Ferguson, Travis Eugene Ferguson, Brett Mullins, Rob Wilson, Kenneth Ray Kazee, Brandi Shae Waggoner and Mickey Simmons.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Preston Family Funeral Home by Pastor Perry Young. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
