Wesley Marshall "Wes" Disney, 61, of Lancaster, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, passed away suddenly Friday, Feb. 24, 2017.
He was born Aug. 18, 1955, in Chicago, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis A. (Martin) Disney; and his mother-in-law, Eula F. Layman.
Wes grew up in Ashland, graduated from Raceland High School in 1973 and attended Ashland Community College. He became a journeyman electrician and remained a life-long member of the IBEW. Wes was a Mason and a strong supporter of the Republican Party. He was an avid reader and was always bettering himself by trying to learn more about everything from classic cars to neuroscience. Wes thoroughly enjoyed art museums, was a lover of all kinds of music, and enjoyed cooking gourmet food for his family and friends. He particularly loved historical military weaponry and was an expert in the field of historic and contemporary firearms. Wes had a passion for hunting and fishing, was an artisanal cheese enthusiast and loved watching University of Kentucky basketball with his family.
Wes is survived by his wife of 24 years Susan; two daughters, Sarah and Virginia of Lancaster; his father, Donald B. Disney of Ashland; a brother-in-law, Bruce (Dana) Layman of Rockledge, Fla.; a nephew, Shane Layman; and many relatives and beloved friends.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Lancaster with The Rev. Brian Jones from First United Methodist Church officiating.
Family and friends may visit from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
