My heart goes out to all the family of Bill that I met, and also never had the pleasure of meeting. He was a good host, and as many were privileged to know (and taste), a wonderful cook, with a great repertoire of down-home style dishes he’d mastered. As a matter of fact, my first-ever fried green tomatoes were served straight out of his pan one summer. I think he could hardly believe I had never tried them until then. They were perfect! Those tomatoes may have even come from his nice little kitchen garden growing next to his old house before he moved. During the same visit, he introduced me to another real treat -- barbequed beef on a bun, but with a big twist (for me, as a Texan): colesl...aw! Wow, I can still 'taste' it!! If I recall, another reason it was such a treat is that the meat had come from his niece's deli that day. So I don't think that sandwich can ever be duplicated, haha. His older son loved his pineapple upside down cakes. Bill liked to go to flea markets on a regular basis. If I'm not mistaken, Hillbilly Flea Market is the one he enjoyed going to and took us to. Now, it looks like his grandson has caught the flea market bug, as he’s itching to visit one near his home he’s gotten wind of. I imagine memories of his grandpa will always go hand in hand with a trip to any flea market. That’s a nice mental-emotional association, and I’m honored my son has ‘inherited’ his grandfather’s affinity for simple pleasures. Yes, he was a “simple man”, who enjoyed the simple, more wholesome things in life. He was also generous in so many ways, and liked to see others happy – whether eating his food, or opening a gift he’d carefully selected. He was very blessed to have a loving sister who cared deeply about supporting him spiritually as he prepared for his meeting with his savior. I’m very grateful to her. My prayers will be with all of you at this most difficult time.Read more

I'm blessed to have known you Bill...you was a very nice and sweet man. Not to forget a very good cook. You had a heart of gold, you never met a stranger, you never turned anyone away. The world lost a very good human being...you will be truly missed!
