Benjamin Franklin "Benny" Burchett Jr., 81, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord Monday, June 5, 2017, in VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va., surrounded by his loving family.
Benny was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Grayson, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Emma Catherine Menix Burchett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Burchett and Delbert Burchett; and three sisters, Phyllis Lawson, Bernice Burton and Helen Carter.
Benny was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served his country honorably. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Grayson. Benny loved his family, attending church and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. He was always there to help family and friends. Benny was a well know Grayson businessman having sold cars, mobile homes and working in the coal industry.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Florence Howell Burchett; a son, Jon Franklin (Andrea) Burchett of Grayson; three daughters, Teresa (Walter) Romans of Grayson, Kimberly Burchett Larson of New York City, N.Y., and Rhonda Burchett of Grayson; three granddaughters, Kayla Renee Boggs, Samantha Marie Romans and Katherine Nicole Romans, all of Grayson; and many friends and extended family who all mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday June 12, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Grayson with Kyle Burchett and Collin Howell officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County with full military rites.
Pallbearers will be Walter Romans, Collin Howell, Curtis Howell, Larry Burton, Larry Williams, Rick Burton and Zach Burchett. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Carson, Ronnie Burton, Harold Dyer, Joe Kitchen, Mike Kitchen and John Sloan.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
