Bert W. Patton Sr., 76, of Ashland, went home to be with his Lord on Monday morning, August 14, 2017, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington.
Mr. Patton was born June 14, 1941, in Cannonsburg, KY, a son of the late Nelson and Sarah Cordle Patton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margo D. Bryan Patton whom he married October 20, 1961.
Bert a 1959 graduate of Boyd County High School got his start in the workforce at Armco Steel. In 1967 however, alongside his brother Robert, they started Patton Construction Co. Inc. He was instrumental in developing several area land developments and he had his real estate license.
His passion was serving the Lord, he has been a Christian since 1954. He was a charter member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and Garner Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was active in the jail ministry, Ramey-Estep Sunday School ministry and the truck stop ministry. He was a Gideon, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite-Valley of Covington, KY Masonic Lodge, a member of the El Hasa Shrine and the Rush Order of Eastern Star.
Bert enjoyed farming and raising beef cattle and horses, horseback riding and traveling. His greatest blessings were his three children and grandchildren, Bert Patton Jr. married to Angela of Rush, Nikki Griffith married to Russ of Ashland, and Jerry Patton married to Julia of Argillite; grandchildren, Brent Patton, Rachel Blevins, Heather Ruggles (Chris), Russell Griffith (Whitney) and Seth Patton (Alysha); great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Samantha, Gracie, Colt, Austin and Jaxon. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert Patton of Huffman, TX, Charles Patton of Ocala, FL. and Ronald Patton (Jeannie) of Ashland, KY; and three sisters, Jane Francis, (Mike) of Ashland, Wanda "Tootie" Bradley of Ocala, FL., Loretta Dixon of Ashland; and a very special friend, Joyce Brown.
A private graveside service was Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Patton Family Cemetery. Pastor Dewayne Slusher and Bro. Gary Arrington officiated.
A celebration of his life will be at 7 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Garner Missionary Baptist Church, 19231 State Route 3, Rush, KY.
Family will receive visitors beginning at 6 p.m. and a time of Fellowship will follow the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of Neal-Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg.
