Billy's Story

Billy Dell Crabb Hall, 96, of Flatwoods, died Thursday, March 16, 2017.
Billy Dell was a native of Leonard, Texas, where she was born June 23, 1920, to the late William and Dell Rigney Crabb.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lt. Col. Charles E. Hall (USAF); and her beloved son-in-law, Dr. David E. Herr.
She met and married Ashland native, Charles E. Hall in San Antonio in 1942, thus beginning her life of adventure as the wife of a career Air Force officer. Billy met the challenge of raising children and nurturing her family in many different places, including post-war Germany, Philippines and Newfoundland, Canada.
Upon retirement, she and Charlie made Ashland their home. Billy's most treasured roles were as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and friends were blessed by her many acts of love and kindness.
She was a member of Ashland First United Methodist Church, where she was an active volunteer for many years. Hers was a life of service to her family, her country and her community.
She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Hall Herr of Staunton, Va.; a son, Roger W. (Trish) Hall (Trish) of Ashland; six grandchildren, Ted (Stephanie) Hall, Laura (Jeff) French, Janice Hall, Sam (Elizabeth) Herr, Ron (Jessica) Herr and Katy (Eli) Lovell; and 12 great-grandchildren, Austin Hall, Nathan Hall, Tyler Hall, Madelyn Herr, Charlie Herr, Cody Comisford, Tyler Comisford, Hadley Herr, Rachel French, Liam Lovell, Jonah Lovell and Maddox Lovell.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland with The Rev. John Street officiating. Burial will be Monday. March 27, 2017, in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and administration of Trinity Station Retirement Community and Community Hospice for the excellent care they provided to their mother and grandmother.
In lieu of flowers, donations be made in Billy Dell's name to First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
