Charles's Story

Charles Kitchen, 75, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday May 17, 2017, at his home.
Chuck was born June 1, 1941, in Ashland, to the late William Kitchen and Mary Russell Kitchen Wellman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Kitchen Branham.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and received several medals including NDSM, National Defense Service Medal, AFGCM, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, SAEMR S0640, Small Arms Expert Markmanship Ribbon, Special Operations Group 40, AFM900-3, 3500PTW, National Defense Medal and Reese Air Force Base Flight Training.
Chuck retired from AK Steel in 2001 after 37 years of service.
He was an avid Bass fisherman. Chuch was active with the Ashland JFL. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participating in football, Little League Baseball, soccer, youth basketball, volleyball and cheerleading. Chuck was a UK Basketball and Football fan. He particularly enjoyed watching basketball with his son, Sean.
He was known as "Pop Pop" to many in the Ashland area.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Gallion Kitchen; a daughter, Kristen Kitchen (Tobin) Wonn of Carlisle; two sons Aaron Kitchen (Melissa Thielke) and Sean Kitchen, both of Ashland; four grandchildren, Emma Wonn, Maggie Wonn, Chase Thielke and Cameron Thielke; two very special nieces, Terry Branham Hilliard of Portland, Ore., and Pam Branham Trogdon of Ashland; and a very loving extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County with Dr. Diane Zwick officiating and military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93 and U.S. Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
Neal-Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
